Frequently asked questions.
Do you accept insurance?
We now accept Medicare, straight KY Medicaid, Wellcare, Anthem/BCBS, KY Anthem/BCBS Medicaid, United Healthcare, Aetna, Optum, and Cigna/Evernorth. If we do not accept your insruance, you may still be eligible for reimbursement from your insurance company for services paid out of pocket. We can provide you with an invoice or super bill which may be used for reimbursement from your insurance company. We also have many clients who pay using a Health Spending Account (HSA) card provided by their insurance. We recommend contacting your insurance company directly to ask about your mental health benefits, out-of-network coverage, and options for possible reimbursement.
Some good questions to ask are:
What are my behavioral health care benefits?
What is my deductible and have I met it?
What amount, if any, do you cover for out of network providers?
What credentials must my therapist have for me to receive reimbursement?
Please reach out to us if you have any further questions about this.
NOTE: Not all of our clinicians are able to accept insurance. Credentialing is not a “one and done” process, and we are each required, individually, to go through the credentialing and approval process with each insurance company/panel separately. Further, each insurance panel has its own requirements and while one may allow credentialing for a particular provider, another may not (this is typically due to licensure type). For instance, services provided by unlicensed clinical interns are never reimbursed by insurance companies, so any clinical intern on staff must be self pay only.
We are more than happy to answer any questions about this. We do our due diligence from first contact to ensure that you are given all the necessary info to make an informed decision about who you see, and who you can’t, if you are wanting us to bill your insurance.
How long does therapy last?
The length of time you spend in therapy will depend on you and your needs. We will support you in and through whatever it is that you need us for. Our primary goal is to provide you with the tools that you need to get to a place where you are stable, empowered, and able to maintain progress independently.
How often do I need to come to therapy?
Again, this will vary. We can make recommendations regarding frequency, but ultimately you have agency over when and how often you want to meet. We can also change how often we meet if you realize you’d like to meet more or less frequently once we get started.
What is the duration of sessions?
Individual and couples sessions are 50 minutes long.
What is your confidentiality policy?
Everything said during a therapy session is completely confidential with few exceptions:
If you share with us that a child, elder adult, and/or dependent adult are experiencing abuse or neglect
If you share with us that you are in imminent danger of harming yourself or someone else.
These are the only exceptions to your confidentiality, and they exist to ensure safety. Even on the rare occasion that one of these exceptions applies, we will do our best to discuss it with you and keep the reporting or safety-securing process as transparent as possible.
What is your cancellation policy?
Life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we ask that you do so at least 24 hours in advance. You will be responsible for 50% of your therapists self pay fee if cancellation is within less than 24 hours. This is necessary, because your therapist holds your scheduled session time exclusively for you at the exclusion of other clients. At least 24-hours notice gives your therapist the chance to offer your time to other clients who may be waiting.
What are your office hours?
Though our clinicians’ individual availability varies, our typical office hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Your clinician may have additional availability outside of these hours, including earlier and later appointments as their schedule allows to accommodate your needs.
What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept some insurances, all major credit cards, cash, check, and/or HSA/FSA account cards. Please note that a credit card is required to be put on file to book an appointment.
Do you offer video/virtual sessions?
Yes! If you are unable to come into the office for therapy, or you are located in another Kentucky city and still wanting to work with us, virtual sessions are available to you.
Do you offer group therapy or workshops?
We do offer different groups from time to time! Beginning September 3rd, we are going to be holding a 6 week, in=person support group for Healing Religious Trauma. If you are interested, email Dr. Shelby at drbree@integrativepsychky.com.
What does your practice specialize in?
We work with a wide range of mental health issues and life experiences, and with people of all identities and backgrounds. Each of our therapists has their own unique skills, clinical experience, and niche. A common thread we all share is our passion for accepting and meeting you exactly as you are, and supporting you in finding safety and wholeness as your true self. To explore which therapist may be the best fit for you, check out our Team page!
Do you prescribe medication?
We do not prescribe medication as a psychologist or therapists. Psychotropic medication is prescribed by Psychiatrists or Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, and sometimes Primary Care Physicians when needed. We are able to provide referrals for prescribing professionals if needed.
What can I expect during the first session?
The first session is a time for you and your therapist to meet and get a feel for the space and dynamic of therapy. Your therapist may ask specific questions related to your history, background, concerns, and hopes for the therapeutic process. And, you are also welcome to discuss concerns and goals that you have for therapy, and/or any questions you have about the process.
